Taliban’s Counter Strategy is based on declared US Strategy

Taliban waiting for 2012?
Now that we know the administration’s new strategy for Afghanistan, what is the Taliban strategy against the United States?
Such a question is warranted to be able to project the clash between the two strategies and assess the accuracy of present U.S. policies in the confrontation with the forces it is fighting against in that part of the world.
So, how would the Taliban/al-Qaida war room counter NATO and the Afghan Government based on the Obama Administration’s battle plan?

But as I said before, the Taliban is now on notice just to wait us out. What if FDR issued an exit date from WW2? We saw what happened in Viet-Nam upon issuance of an exit date.

I read more than a few times that BO and others want to play nice with the Taliban and have them play a role in the gummint. I can’t think of a nuttier thought. And while playing nice, we would wrap up Al-Q. Now, that to me is an open invitation to the Taliban to be nice, maybe help us rid Afghanistan of Al-Q to get us out the door faster. Or as Walid Phares stated, while we are chasing down the Taliban, the Madrasses are just training the replacements.
Either way of pre-announcing the day the “War” is over whether it is or not won receives the answer the General gave at the Battle of the Bulge to the Germans “NUTS”
The sad thing is Obama did our service people a disservice by setting an exit date then he went and made that damage meaningless by saying the date could change.
Damn Obama for telling the Taliban our planned pull-out date! And damn him for not telling us his detailed military plans!
Obama was for the war before he was against it. Now he’s 3/4th for it for about 18 months unless it takes longer, but he definitely will begin withdrawing troops just prior to the 2012 elections, which of course should not be construed as an indication Obama is playing politics with the lives of our service men and women. Far from it, Obama has a plan to protect our troops. Stage 1 is already in the works.
In fact, bringing KSM to New York City for a criminal trial and with all the protections afforded an American citizen is proof our Commander-in-Chief is so concerned with the safety and welfare of our troops he’s willing to reward the jihadi mastermind for specifically killing unarmed civilians instead of targeting our soldiers and sailors.
Providing Islamic jihadis with significant incentives to target civilians exposing our domestic population to “selected reductions” will occupy the terrorists and consume their resources in ways that by and large exclude murdering our troops, unless they happen to be stationed at military bases, in which case the troops will be unarmed and can thus be considered civilians for purposes of (jihadi slaughter) selected population reductions.
If the plan works out well and KSM is exonerated as expected, Obama may expand his “Trials for Terrorists” initiative into a fully funded Force Protection Plan which will provide our armed forces with a level of security from jihadi attacks never before anticipated, while at the same time moving forward on his environmental agenda of stabilizing US population growth.

Secondly, you are purposely misstating the meaning of Obama’s July 2011 date. Obama called it the time to “begin to draw down the troops”. It was NOT described as an “exit” date, so why do you on the Right spin it that way. Answer: Because regardless, you are wont to frame everything Obama tries to do into a negative. It’s all so obvious! And it comes from folks permitting the media wingnuts to provide them with their talking points, without simultaneously providing an understanding of the breadth of the issues. Yorkshire, you have permitted yourself to be one of this unquestioning flock.
If you were Obama, what would your Afghanistan policy be. That is the question I ask of myself.
Given that Obama inherited the situation in Afghanistan, he has to act taking into account our previous commitments there and the damage we have done there. Therefore, it would be inappropriate, in fact immoral, for us to withdraw immediately, or for us to escalate hostilities indefinitely.
Therefore, Obama’s idea is to give it one more shot using the strategy and tactics put together by the commanding General on the ground, while simultaneously putting the Karzi government on notice that they must respond by taking responsibility for the security for their own country, that we will not be there to do so indefinitely. Furthermore, this enables us to be in the region where al Qaeda exists presently, and to support the Pakistan government in their efforts to clear terrorists from their side of the border. Further instability in this area would be a threat to our national security, not to mention that neighboring Pakistan is a formidable nuclear power, that this power coming under control of the Islamic extremists would be a terrible thing to ever have happen.

Mostly it’s framed that way because as a Commander YOU DO NOT SEND YOUR ADVERSARY YOUR PLANS. What more can be said. You tell them you’re coming to get a job done. I have never understood the Left’s obsession with exit dates. It just means your level of committment is not there. Look at Viet-Nam for the answer. The North V-N knew when we were leaving, they waited, and then slaughtered thousands.

I would say there is some truth there. Be the same as saying all Dems are pro-abortion, they are not; or all Reps are big business bullies stomping on the little guy, they are not.
But the entity called the Taliban of the late 90′s and up to 2002 was a pretty repressive group to anyone not doing what they made edict.
I was thinking that list of people set up for “independent review” of ACORN was put up on this site, but I can’t find it. There was nothing independent or honest about the people doing the “independent review”. And the outcome was already forecast: the dishonest “independent review” would clear ACORN.
But NPR is about as honest as Media Mutters.

You’re so right! It was intentionally NOT described as an exit date, even though that’s exactly what it is. His speech was purposely penned to avoid saying what it really was.
If a farmer were to begin to “draw down” the number of cattle on his land, one would logically conclude they must be “exiting” his land and going somewhere else.
You can semantically spin the time factor any way you want, but the end result is the same – troops being pulled out, or exiting the theater of battle.
We all understand Obama’s not planning to pull them all at once. The Right understands it as just another typical simpy, limp-wristed, Liberal, restrictive and politically expedient form of Limited Warfare, to be temporarily exercised up to the end goal of tucking tail and running away (with a lot of weasel words thrown in to make it sound good of course).
Rather than issuing firm notice to AQ and the Taliban factions that we’re coming over to stomp their guts out and hunt them down like dogs until we’ve achieved total extirpation, the message is, “Just stay cool and we’ll start getting out of there in 18 months.”
There’s really no difficulty in understanding this message. All one needs to do is read his ‘carefully crafted’ speech. The Right doesn’t really need to spend much time “…framing everything Obama tries to do into a negative.” He does that just fine on his own through both word and action on an ongoing basis. It just requires a willingness to take the blinders off long enough to see it.
