In 1803 Jefferson paid a few million dollars to the French for about 30% of the USA. Great value, pennies on the acre and the return is a million+ fold. 206 years later, Hairy Reed spent 300M non-existant dollars of the taxpayers’ future to bribe for buy One Vote from Mary Landrieu for the tax heavy scheme of Health Care to pass. The lack of integrity is appalling.

It’s not going into her pocket. People would notice.
Do you deny that the government acted like a corrupt, third world hellhole in its response to the Katrina disaster? Do you deny that Louisiana needs the money? Do you deny the poor, homeless victims of that disaster deserve the help that money will bring?
If so, then your lack of integrity is appalling.
This is how politics is done. On both sides.
yes, I deny.
That’s how dirty politics is done! That’s the problem on either side. Are we on other sides? Are we not Americans on the same side? Perhaps not. I believe in America. What do you believe in?

The government of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana did act like a third world Hell Hole. Schoolbus Nagin was told well in advance as to what would happen. He bugged out with his family to high ground. Gov. Blanco was a zero. Neither had the sense of a razorback hog.
Most of the deaths in NOLA could have been prevented if Nagin listened and evacuated the city. He didn’t listen. Blanco just froze. The National Hurricane Center kept telling the LA Emergency group to get the hell out of there.
Meanwhile, in MS which got hit dead on, the Gov. evacuated the coastal cities and as soon as the storm went by, just started to clean up.
Meanwhile, back in LA, they just stood there looking stupid and paralyzed.
Everyone screams about the Levees. Do you know, and probably haven’t a clue, that there are 600 miles of levees surrounding NOLA and metro parishes? Do you know there are about 200 different designs on them? Do you know the locals are responsible for maintenance? These are little tidbits the MSM left out of the Bush diatribe.
Do you know it’s up to the Gov to ask the FEDS for help? The Feds were ready to go in, but Blanco FROZE. The Feds had to force her to accept help.
Do you know the CoE can only build a levee as big as Congress allows?
And are you nuts enough to live 14 ft below sea level behind a wall of dirt the gummint built?
And the $300M goes to Medicare, not NOLA. And did you know the Feds have spent that much rebuilding the swamp called NOLA. The French had it right when the told Jefferson not to build a city there. For all the money we spent, we could build a new city instead of repeating the same mistake.
Interesting info, Yorkshire. Thanks.
No, Nangleator, Yorkshire is not accurate here, and not telling the full story, as usual!
Yorkshire claims:“And the $300M goes to Medicare, not NOLA.”
Wrong, Yorkshire, on three counts: The money is going to Medicaid, not Medicare. Second, the amount is not necessarily $300 million, but ranges between $100 and $300 million, depending on the Medicaid shortfall. Third, LA was going to be in deep trouble without the assistance, because the Federal Medicaid allotment formula would severely cut their Medicaid assistance because post-Katrina federal aide has been so large.
So Yorkshire, you need to get your facts in order before you go off on your pontifications.
You are correct that LA officials did not respond as the benefit of hindsight tells us they should have, but I think your hyperbolic, partisan rhetoric is not entirely true, not to mention that you left out completely the incompetence of the Feds, from Bush on down to FEMA (“Great job, Brownie”).
Nagin did evacuate the city, but the evacuation was hampered by clogged roads. Moreover, the poor blacks, with no personal transportation and the buses immobile, were sent to the indoor stadium, where they were literally tortured, marooned without enough food for days while the Bush people fiddled.
So Yorkshire, a dose of accuracy would make your claims more credible than your partisan bloodletting presented here!

You’re welcome.

It was reported last week at $100M. Then I saw a video last night with Landrieu herself saying it was $300M.
Nice that you left out Nagin wouldn’t use the buses because he had to have certain drivers. That’s a dumb statement for an emergency. And don’t forget the beautiful picture of the buses underwater.
And you forgot the Governor of the state must ask for the help. The Feds tried for a few days before the hurricane hit to have Blanco ask for help, she didn’t until a day afterwards. FEMA can’t do a thing until that happens except get ready to move. Blanco and Nagin did not lead, they just got in the way.

I would think that this puts Landrieu in a dumb position in my opinion. Why didn’t she insist on a stand alone Bill to do this, or an add on to a Bill that is sure to pass than the Risky Health Care Bill? This way, if health care fails, she’s spent her capital on a risky bid to get what looks like a legitimate need, rather than have it portrayed as a sell out.
Thanks Nangleator, your reference backs up my statements about the $100-$300 million. It’s interesting to note that it was mainly the GOP in LA that worked to resolve this Medicaid shortfall. I think that Harry Reid was wise to make it into a quid pro quo for health care reform. Any clever politician on either side of the aisle would have done the same.
Yorkshire:“And you forgot the Governor of the state must ask for the help. The Feds tried for a few days before the hurricane hit to have Blanco ask for help, she didn’t until a day afterwards.”
‘Tis pretty hard to ask for aid before the storm hits, and before some idea of the extent of the hit is known. Besides, you will have to admit that FEMA’s response was still slow and woefully inadequate. People, especially blacks, were neglected and suffered needlessly. And then let’s not forget the trailers insulated with urea/formaldehyde foam that put deadly formaldehyde vapors in the interior of these units. What a mess!!!
Idiot nonsense! Same tired old two-faced phony baloney. Same leftist tap-dance and double-talk, every bit as predictable as a higher taxes, and promiscuous spending.
Democrats get caught with their pants down and suddenly we’re informed everyone wears their knickers around their ankles. I’ve seen more integrity among common criminals. What a shameful display, but how typical of the hollow men and mincing pretenders who speak out defending political malfeasance. You deserve yourselves.
You “persons” should avoid any mirrors for a few days, or the little voice in the back of your head just might ask an old but significant question, “How many times must a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn’t see?”
ropelight, if you’re so moral about this sort of thing in government, you must be absolutely livid about all the insurance company money that goes to all the Republicans and blue dogs opposing health care reform. It must look so dirty to you that you’re all behind Obama’s attempt to cut waste and naked profiteering in healthcare. That’s not even a redirection of budget funding from one area to another, but private funds coming in to alter government activities for profit.
God, you must be up in arms about that!

After Hurricane Andrew that was changed. FEMA and the President waited until after the storm. But after Andrew, agencies started mobilizing pre-storm. And the Governor can pre-ask that if the worst happens, the Feds can go in. But without the request, the Feds Can’t.
The only agency that didn’t have to wait is the Coast Guard. They by charter are always ready to move request or not. They were the first on the scene.
Drooling troglodyte.
