‘Twas Glenn Beck who probably did the most to get Van Jones’ past statements out in the open, and our friends on the left are less than pleased:
Send Me Everything You Can Find About Glenn Beck
by Keith Olbermann
Sun Sep 06, 2009 at 10:14:03 AM PDT
I don’t know why I’ve got this phrasing in my head, but: Find everything you can about Glenn Beck, Stu Burguiere, and Roger Ailes.
No, even now, I refuse to go all caps.
No, sending me links to the last two Countdowns with my own de-constructions of his biblical vision quality Communist/Fascist/Socialist/Zimbalist art at Rockefeller Center (where, curiously, he works, Comrade) doesn’t count. Nor does sending me links to specious inappropriate point-underscoring prove-you’re-innocent made-up rumors.
- Keith Olbermann’s diary :: ::
Tuesday we will expand this to the television audience and have a dedicated email address to accept leads, tips, contacts, on Beck, his radio producer Burguiere, and the chief of his tv enablers, Ailes (even though Ailes’ power was desperately undercut when he failed to pull off his phony “truce” push).
This becomes necessary after this in order to prove various cliches about goose and gander, and to remind everybody to walk softly and carry a big popsicle, and most particularly to save this nation from the Oligarhy of The Stupid.
I keep wondering if somewhere somebody named Ollie Garhey thinks he’s in charge now. Or, even more entertainingly and societally satisfying, if somebody named Ali Garhi does.
Despite the worn-out snark above, I am in earnest here.
Hat tip to Gretchen for the article. Mr Olbermann doesn’t like Mr Beck’s latest push to target (professionally) other appointees of the Obama Administration:
Glenn Beck’s Next Target: Cass Sunstein
By David Weigel 9/4/09 3:36 PMAs he makes a real impact in pushing conservative fringe attacks on Obama administration officials into the mainstream, Glenn Beck’s Twitter feed has become a must-read. In a message from last night, Beck told his followers to “FIND EVERYTHING YOU CAN ON CASS SUNSTEIN, MARK LLOYD AND CAROL BROWNER.” They are, respectively, the nominee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, the Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer of the FCC, and the Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change. Browner was also administrator of the EPA for all eight years of Bill Clinton’s presidency.
Of course, there’s a big difference. The people on whom Mr Beck seeks career ending information are government officials; if there is nasty information about them, they get fired by the President. Mr Beck, on the other hand, is a television and radio talk show host; if he gets fired, he gets fired by the people choosing not to watch or listen to his shows anymore.
Now, our good friends at the Delaware Liberal just love the campaign to scare away advertisers from the Glenn Beck Show on Fox. Of course, it was Van Jones’ old organization, colorofchange.org, which was the lead group trying top persuade advertisers to drop Mr Beck’s show, so, quite naturally, Mr Beck started publicizing Mr Jones’ old affiliations.
What set off colorofchange.org/ was that Mr Beck said that he thought President Obama is a racist
I’m not saying he doesn’t like white people, I’m saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist.
That’s Mr Beck’s opinion, of course. But what amuses me is that colorofchange.org’s website is captioned with a blurb that it exists to “strengthen Black America’s political voice.” I’m trying to imagine what an organization that said it was trying to “strengthen White America’s political voice” would be called.
So, colorofchange.org went after Glenn Beck, by trying to get his sponsors to bail out — and they’ve had some success. Thing is, as colorofchange attacked Mr Beck, they only sent Mr Beck’s ratings higher.
The latest ratings, for last Thursday:
5PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Glenn Beck– 2,865,000 viewers (664,000) (1,254,000)
Situation Room—608,000 viewers (120,000) (220,000)
Hardball w/ Chris Matthews—570,000 viewers (145,000) (315,000)
Fast Money—209,000 viewers (60,000) (103,000)
Prime News–243,000 viewers (95,000) (112,000)
Mr Olbermann doesn’t compete directly with Mr Beck; they’re on at different times. But for the times in which Mr Olbermann’s show does appear, well, he doesn’t fare quite as well:
8PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
The O’Reilly Factor – 3,068,000 viewers (684,000) (1,216,000)
Campbell Brown – 723,000 viewers (143,000) (246,000)
Countdown w/ K. Olbermann – 1,242,000 viewers (345,000) (586,000)
CNBC Reports– a scratch w/78,000 viewers (a scratch w/ 28,000) (55,000)
Nancy Grace – 744,000 viewers (207,000) (326,000)On The Record w/ Greta Van Susteren —2,266,000 viewers (568,000) (1,024,000)
Anderson Cooper 360 —1,618,000 viewers (458,000) (777,000)
Countdown w/ K. Olbermann – 643,000 viewers (211,000) (298,000)
Money Chase: Inside HBS – 128,000 viewers (65,000) (83,000)
Nancy Grace –461,000 viewers (192,000) (230,000)
With two separate segments, Mr Olbermann doesn’t come close to Mr Beck’s totals for just one hour. And Mr Olbermann gets clobbered by both Bill O’Reilly and Greta van Susteran.
No wonder Mr Olbermann is so displeased. I am amused.
Donald Douglas has lots more. I’ve included the amazon.com link to Mr Beck’s book, Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine. If you order it through clicking on the title or the embedded image in this article, I get a small commission.

Gretchen also referred me to this:
Olbermann is a pompous, nasty gasbag who seems obsessed with FOX News, probably because their shows kick his ass in the ratings on a regular basis. He’s hated O’Reilly for years, now he’s turning with wrath on Beck. Good luck, Keithie Boy! Beck is winning because he’s scoring actual points. He exposed ACORN and now he’s exposed Van Jones. What has Keith done lately other than to froth and fume at the “Tea baggers” … ??
Keith, it’s not hard to dig some dirt on Glenn Beck. Beck has publicly announced he’s an alcoholic, he was a total sleazebag to his family, he’s had a ton of issues he got out in public, there’s emotional issues in his family history. Beck has come clean on all this on his show. He’s an open book and won’t deny any of it. For Oberman to dig up dirt, just invite Beck on your show. He’ll spill his guts out and has. Have you done the same Keith????
Keithie comes off as a classic narcissist with no sense of humor, and especially not about himself!
Obviously Beck is a serious threat to a number of people. One doesn’t bother gathering dirt about someone that is irrelevant. Olby and DK, etc., have shown their belly to the enemy.
When issues fail, turn to argumentum ad hominem.
Perhaps Olbermann fancies himself a latter-day Ring Lardhead.
[...] piece reviews most of the latest flops at the White House, starting with the Van Jones debacle. The larger lesson is the realization among the main core of the voting electorate that this [...]
I’m thinking Wesley Mouch. Or maybe Bertram Scudder …
Art Downs:
Trouble is, Olbermann can’t even do that right.
The gynecomastic Keith Olbermann – he of the billowing double breasted (how appropriate) pinstripes – attempts to drip sarcasm on another; yet only manages to demonstrate that he is an illiterate drip himself, despite his vaunted Ivy League “Lite” education.
Tsk … tsk …
As a certain Phoenician who has trolled this site has found out, Art, one of the dangers of calling other people stupid in public, is the dismaying prospect of finding yourself proving that the title perfectly applies in one’s own case.
Thus, Keith wants to dig up dirt on the comically emotional Glenn Beck; in order he says, to save this nation from an “Oligarhy [sic] of The Stupid”
What, “Oligarhy“?
Was that a mere typo?
Should we generously assume Keith really does know how to pronounce the term; or even what it actually means?
Well, let’s look for evidence by adverting to the following mockery passage, wherein Keith attempts to personify the concept of oligarchy (note the “K” sound in ‘archy’), by breaking the compound – as he imagines it – apart into first and family names.
Proclaims the talking head from atop it’s over-upholstered jacket shoulders,
Wow.
To Keith: What’s even more entertaining Keith, is watching you thrice demonstrate your illiteracy during an attempt to be clever.
The pretend name based on the term, would, if you knew what you were talking about, be along the lines of “Ollie Garkey”, not “Ollie Garhey”.
See Keith, the word, again, is “oligarchy”, not ‘oligarhy’; and here is the etymology:
All in all, terming Olbermann a ‘Lardhead’, may be just a bit too generous, Art.
