Somebody Has Flunked Metaphors 101

Hmm, so our beloved President thinks that closing the border during the influenza emergency would be like “closing the barn door after the horse has bolted”! Mr. President, this would apply only if there was only one horse in that barn. Unfortunately, there are millions of horses in the border barn, so closing the door would be sound practice. Or can’t you count border barn horses any better than you can count deficit-debt trillions?

He’s following the CDC’s recommendations. The metaphor isn’t very good, but it works. The horse is any infected person from the country of origin. The barn door is every Mexican border. Now that the disease has spread beyond Mexico’s borders, there’s no containing it.

Closing the U.S./Mexican border would have no effect on the disease, it would only help Lou Dobbs sleep better at night.
