The Department of Homeland Security has identified the Salvation Army as a right wing extremist organization. According to Miles Griffin of the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis, the classification was based on clear, convincing evidence. “One need only observe their uniforms, religious fervor, and anti-government homeless programs to know the Salvation Army fits DHS criteria for dangerous and disgruntled.”
Not quite The Onion, but pretty good. H/T: The Other McCain.

Dana, I think you’ll get a laugh out of this as well.

The crimes of nut-case McVeigh are given as an example of a veteran gone wild and using ‘his training’ to help perpetrate a violent crime.
Yet was he trained in the use of ammonium nitrate to blow up buildings?
What in his military training or experience prepared him do do such an act?
How many combat veterans turn to violent crime? The percentage may be rather low in comparison to numbers for the general population. Such service involves discipline and most criminals seem to have been lacking in this attribute.
The Unabomber was not a right wing exremist.
The question of whether Mcveigh used his training or was trained to use nitrates misses the point. Where an untrained civilian may cower and run, a trained soldier will stand and confront a perceived threat, hitting where it hurts most. This in itself is evidence of his training. But what was the perceived threat in McVeigh’s mind? As one may see from his own statements, it’s clear the government’s handling of both Ruby Ridge and Waco provided a decision point for him.
While 99,999 Vets out 100,000 may quietly view with disgust a governent that tramples the Constitution they swore to defend “…against all enemies foreign and domestic…”, it only takes one with the right ambition who perceives the government itself as being the enemy.
