Most Americans Favor Abortion Restrictions

A new Harris poll “finds a plurality of Americans want all or most abortions to be illegal and overwhelming majorities of Americans want more abortion limits in law.”

Pro-choicers dislike polls (at least, where abortion is concerned) because most people understand why abortion should be severely restricted. Despite the arguments abortion supporters present, there hasn’t been a poll yet where people consider unfettered abortion till (or, in Barack Obama’s case, after) birth to be a good thing.

The nationwide poll showed just 9 percent said abortion should be legal for any reason at any time during pregnancy — Barack Obama’s position.

The Harris survey included 2,341 adults and was conducted December 10-12.

It found 82 percent of Americans said abortion should either be illegal under all circumstances or would limit its legality.

More specifically, 49 percent of those polled took a pro-life position wanting all abortions made illegal (11 percent) or wanting almost all abortions illegal except for very rare cases of saving the mothers life or in rape or incest (38 percent).

I wonder if there were any questions about why the participants hate women and want to punish them?

This is interesting because we will never, ever hear about this in any media outlet other than a pro-life one. This is the very sort of information that those who support abortion cannot allow out. The disconnect between the reality of public preference and our incoming president is staggering.

OK, you have to ask: why would most Americans favor at least some restrictions on abortion? After all, if abortion simply removes am unwanted clump of cells, why would it be qualitatively different from trimming your toenails!

It couldn’t be that most Americans see an unborn child as something more than a clump of cells, could it?

Why do you think this doesn’t show up in the mainstream media? There are lots of polls of Americans on this issue. Most of them come down to, “A few people think that abortion should be available all the time, a few people think none of the time, but most people think some-to-most of the time.” This has shown up in polls by CNN, the Washington Post, ABC news…

What you won’t find in the mainstream media is the wording of this particular writeup. This is because it’s misleading. Saying “It found 82 percent of Americans said abortion should either be illegal under all circumstances or would limit its legality” makes it look like 82% of Americans identify themselves as anti-abortion and only 9% as pro-choice. The phrasing lumps the pro-choice activist who doesn’t support third-trimester elective abortion in the same group with people who are 100% anti-abortion.

On another note, if “a pro-life position wanting all abortions made illegal (11 percent)” means “even if the woman is going to die,” then it is NOT PRO-LIFE and I’m shocked that even 11% of Americans would support it.

DRF, Why do you phrase it like that ? As I read it, it is 49% of the respondents were pro-innocent-life 11% being anti-abortion, and 9% pro-death.
The language of the issue has long ago stopped being plain language. The term abortion whitewashes what it is that is being done. The use of the term pro-choice, itself, puts the other side on the defensive. Their reaction, to call themselves pro-life, then puts them squarely in the sights of the attack that claims you cannot be pro-life if you won’t save the life of the mother; Regardless of the small percentage of abortions sought for life-saving purposes. Which then leads to the language which calls for health reasons. Now we are at the point where everything is for the health of the woman.
There are pro-life proponents that can discern innocent life.
There is, however a clearly evident mental derangement in those persons that call for unfettered abortion, yet and end to capital punishment.
What is surprising is that so many people just go on about their lives wanting to pretend that abortion doesn’t kill people. That abortion doesn’t harm the mother in ways that are even now only being uncovered after years of denials.

Where is the protection of the mother’s mental and physical health, then, that is so profoundly important when it facilitates a baby’s murder ?
