Has Obama been saying the right things about the economy? My opinion so far is I don’t think he could say much else, or McCain may have been saying about the same at this point. For now, at least events, and his pull back on taxes has calmed the market for the time being.

Well, the markets had been in a freefall since his election, but it seems like his statements about taxes (regardless of what the Left thinks) has put the brakes on that. Also, the people he has picked for his financial team have excellent credentials and have won the approval of the Right as well as the Left. It’s the most positive thing he’s done so far.
Well, while we couldn’t expect our incoming president to pick Republicans for his team, at least the selections he’s made so far have been reasonably moderate types, the Robert Rubin economic types. So far, his choices for his economic team are as good as we could have (reasonably) hoped.
Glenn Greenwald has more on the moderate Democratic nature of Mr Obama’s appointments thus far.
The “progressives” and far left feel betrayed, so, thus far, that’s a good thing.
I’m pretty far left and I don’t feel betrayed. (But then again, I’m pretty far left *on social issues* … and Clintonite economics is basically what I expected from Sen. Obama.)
It’s starting to look like the 3rd term of Bush/Clinton.

Proof, Sharon? Or is the entire business press part of your Grand Librul Media Conspiracy as well?
Oh, yes, Mike. It must be your liberal media conspiracy, obviously, at work. *rolls eyes*
Aphrael, I suspect that Obama will be far more moderate on economics and the war in Iraq than the Left likes. His social policies will turn one’s hair white, though.
So, as usual, Sharon has little more than sarcasm and bluster to back up her claims.
The judicial picks of Obama may be more important than any immediate economic policies in determining his real goals.
Remember that the Supreme Court did act as a brake on some of the excesses of the New Deal.
For the past eight years, restoration of an ideological balance to the Federal judiciary was blocked by Democrats in the Senate through a variety of means. Seven Republicans in the so-called ‘Gang of 14′ blocked the ‘Nuclear Option’ that would have ended this game. Among them was John McCain. His rationale was that, under a future Democrat President and Democrat majority in the Senate, the GOP might need this safeguard to prevent the placement of radically ‘creative’ judges on the Federal bench.
Will the Republicans carry out such a rule to block an effort to pack the judiciary with judges bearing the ACLU/NARAL/NAMLA/LaRaza Seal of Approval?

Only until Roosevelt threatened to pack the court. Then the Supremes started us down the sorry road we’ve been headed ever since.

No, because Republicans believe choosing judges is the president’s prerogative.
