The North Carolina GOP ad that John McCain has denounced and we shouldn’t be allowed to see–at least, according to some–creates a most interesting double standard.
At various places along the lefty end of the spectrum, we’re told denouncing the ad isn’t enough. No, if Barack Obama was responsible for the words of
bigot Rev. Jeremiah Wright, then John McCain is responsible for the words of 527s and people like Floyd Brown, the man behind this ad.
Frankly, I like the ad because it tars Obama with his own voting record. Don’t like tough sentencing laws? Fine, you can get hit with ads about people hurt or killed by murderers let loose because of it. Don’t want to keep babies who survive abortion alive? Fine, then you have to answer for voting against this legislation. Don’t like guns? Fine, then you have to answer for your votes against gun rights for law-abiding citizens.
The hypocrisy from the Left on this ad issue is stunning. We can’t even get Obama to issue an unequivocal repudiation of bigot Wright’s statements, but John McCain is supposed to march in to the N.C. GOP offices and force them to stop running ads that show what Obama’s voting record is and what it does?
I don’t expect Barack Obama to stop 527s from going after John McCain. They’re already planning to do it:
Wealthy Democrats are preparing a four-month, $40 million media campaign centered on attacks on Sen. John McCain. And it will be led by David Brock, the former investigative reporter who first gained fame in the 1990s as a right-wing, anti-Clinton journalist.
The planned campaign is the product of a shakeup in the top ranks of the struggling independent Democratic groups. Brock, now best known as the ex-conservative founder of the liberal group Media Matters, last month quietly assumed the chairmanship of what’s expected to be the main vehicle for independent Democratic attacks on McCain, now called Progressive Media USA.
It’s called free speech, moonbats. You know, you get to say what you want, we provide evidence that you’re lying, then we play ads that show what a radical your candidate is and you whine that it’s not fair! We’ve seen your crying and whining before and it ain’t pretty.
